A building permit ensures that your project is structurally sound, properly installed and complies with the City’s building and zoning codes. Most importantly, it ensures the health, safety and welfare of all our residents.
The City of St. Peters’ Stormwater Code, Chapter 550 per Ordinance 5852 requires any land disturbances (which includes individual residential lots less than one acre in size) have siltation control measures in place prior to any land disturbance on the site. Siltation control measures are required in locations where silt from the lots could drain into the road right-of-way, onto adjacent lots or into drainageways (storm inlets, swales, creeks, etc.).
PLEASE NOTE THAT PERMITS (FOOTING AND FOUNDATION PERMIT, BUILDING PERMIT, ETC.) WILL NOT BE ISSUED FOR A SITE/LOT UNTIL CITY STAFF HAS PERFORMED AN INSPECTION TO ENSURE SILTATION CONTROL MEASURES HAVE BEEN INSTALLED PRIOR TO LAND DISTURBANCE. The inspection will take place when an application for a permit has been filed with the City.
Permits are required, but not limited to new construction, additions, structural alterations, remodeling, demolition, and any other miscellaneous construction. Click here for a list of commonly used application forms. Fees vary according to permit type.
Note: while a permit may not be required, City, State or Federal regulations may still apply to the project. Before beginning any construction project, contact the City’s Building Department with specific details on your project to determine what permits, if any, are required. You can reach the Building Department by calling ext. 1670 at either 636.278.2244 or 636.477.6600.
Please contact the Planning Department for fence and sign requirements at ext. 1670 at either 636.278.2244 or 636.477.6600.
